Over the years I have been learning and applying new ideas and techniques to my recording and mixing practices. From humble beginnings in a basement studio in high school to my current mixes in a modern studio, everything has helped me learn and grow in the field of music production.
Liberty Hall Collective, a group of talented musicians starting off in their dorm hall, made their way through an Iowa battle of the bands, and won the grand prize: a recording session in Catamount Studios in Iowa. While they opted to mix it themselves, they still needed someone to master the Catamount Ep as well as their previously released album Lights.
Wanting to up their game and have a more polished touch, the Buena Vista Chapel Band came to myself and a colleague of mine, Brett P, to record a few covers. The first four songs here are our final results from a few weeks in the studio. The last is a bonus live track from them. This was a great multi-week project with many creative minds and avenues.
This song was a special recording. A radio competition came up for KBVU 97.5 for a best recorded cover. An unlikely individual came to me asking to record a song dear to her heart. She was a bit inexperienced, but had a beautiful voice that shines next to a Steinway. Both were recorded with an AKG 414, with the piano being recorded Mid/Side with the 414 and a Shure SM81 for the mid.
C U Next Time Was a mixing project for my advanced mixing class. We were provided a Pro Tools file with blank stems and asked to mix the project. This was my final version, mixed and mastered.
